Get to Know Sarah

From my perspective, our life experiences and personal values form the lens which we use to view the world. Our values can act as a compass to guide us in ways that are consistent with the type of life that we envision for ourselves. However, when we are experiencing difficulties, whether it be an emotional concern, external factors such as work or school-related stressors, or concerns stemming from our relationships with others, we can occasionally lose some of our ability to navigate. This is what I appreciate most about therapy: having a supportive, non-judgmental space to foster insight, personal reflection, and empowerment to help uncover that compass.

During my graduate education, I remember participating in a values exercise. Myself and my peers were initially tasked with choosing ten values that resonated with us from a list of approximately fifty. Then we were asked to narrow the list down to five, and then three, and then one. The value that resonated with me the most: balance. I conceptualize balance as having many definitions. Balance exists when clarifying and attaining a manageable and sustainable ‘happy medium’ between academic/professional responsibilities and our personal lives. Balance occurs within our emotional experiences, finding a grey space between positive and negative emotions. Balance can be created within our relationships with others, whether that is achieved from focusing on effective communication skills or enacting boundaries. After clarifying your therapeutic goals, I strive to bring this perspective of balance into session to assist with making the important, yet challenging, steps towards living an authentic, fulfilling life.

I believe in the importance of establishing a genuine connection with clients in order to collaboratively facilitate values-based living. For this reason, I am happy to provide a brief consultation call to see if this feels like the right fit for you. Please feel welcome to reach out to begin working together.
